You can taste at home an hot chocolate (“cioccolata calda”) like in Italy. In few minutes you can prepare an heartwarming winter delight.
I suggest to use high quality cocoa powder and dark chocolate. If you want to make it in a low-fat version, you can avoid the dark chocolate and use a low fat milk instead.
Creamy Italian Hot Chocolate Recipe

- Glass cup
- Sieve
- Pot
Ingredients
- Nutella
- Grated Dark chocolate
- Dark chocolate 3/4 oz
- 20g Unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3 tablespoons
- 30g Cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons
- Sugar 3 tablespoons
- 1/2 pinch of salt
- Milk 1 cup
Instructions
- Start out by dipping the rim of your clean glass cup into the nutella to evenly and nicely coat it. Next, coat the rim in a plate of grated dark chocolate and set aside.
- Next, start chopping up your dark chocolate. Finely chop it and set aside.
- In a bowl with a clean sieve, add your unsweetened cocoa powder and cornstarch. Now, add 3 tablespoons of sugar to the mix.
- Add 1/2 pinch of salt and stir to combine properly before adding your milk. Add the milk in small quantities and stir as you do so.
- Bring to a boil over low-medium heat. When it starts to thicken, add the chopped chocolate. Stir to incorporate. Stir until all lumps disappear.
- Now, pour the hot chocolate into the glass cup. Next, add your frosting to garnish and sprinkle some cocoa powder on top. You can add a cherry on top and serve.
